Company Director
Stuart Smith
Stuart is the founder and owner of Stuart Smith Plant Hire Ltd. After early life on a farm, Stuart decided to move into the groundwork and civil engineering industry. In the 12-years that followed, he gained a vast amount of knowledge not only in groundwork but also in the plant industry. His CV includes time served at C&A Contractors, Keith Pike & Mike Rowe Civil Engineering, where he was a foreman taking responsibility on many large projects, and sites across South Wales.
In 1992, Stuart decided to create his own business which started out as a groundwork firm, and then in 1995 became a plant hire firm due to the popularity of the few machines he owned. His knowledge in the industry now spans over 36-years and even though he is the owner of the business, you will often see Stuart out delivering machines with his specialist 5th wheel trailer.

As you can see from his picture, in his spare time Stuart likes Formula 1, which amongst his many motorised hobbies also include quad biking and RC racing.

Dean Lynch
He has quite a varied work background ranging from a production worker at Enersys Battery Plant to a postman at Royal Mail. Whatever it is Dean does, he gives it 110%, and this shows in the business where you will find him not only in the workshop maintaining the machines, but also out delivering and everywhere else in between. He has now been in the industry for more than 10-years, and has gained considerable knowledge, which he has recently transferred to the social media side of the business. In his spare time, he likes to get out on either his road or mountain bike. Unlike Stuart though, Deans bikes don't have any engines.
Company Secretary
Janet Smith
Janet is not only the Company Secretary but also the wife of Stuart for nearly 40-years. Coming from a textiles background, Janet was a very keen seamstress working for firms like W&W and Jigsaw. In 1999 she decided to take early retirement to concentrate on her role at Stuart Smith Plant Hire Ltd as the business was growing fast and demanded more of her time.
In her spare time you may still catch Janet sewing, but she definitely prefers her other hobby which is card making.
About our company
Stuart Smith Plant Hire Ltd is a family-run plant hire business established in 1995 with a depot that is situated in the heart of Newport, so we are easy to find off all major roads.
Our main business priority is the hire of self drive plant machinery e.g. excavators, dumpers, bobcats etc., but we have also been known to provide a transportation service for plant machinery and the occasional sales. As all of our customers know, we are reliable and punctual and are able to provide machinery and assistance with the most minimal of notice. We now have more than 25 machines, and the majority of these are no more than 3-years old as we like to trade them in for new when they are approaching the end of their 3rd year, so you can be assured that you are getting the most up-to-date equipment, which you can depend on.
